Upcoming Changes on eBay

If you’re a seller on eBay and don’t live under a rock, I’m sure you’ve seen all the forums a buzz regarding the upcoming fee structure changes that eBay will be introducing on 3/30/10. As a long time seller on eBay, I thought it might be best to air my views. For all store owners, yes the fees are going up. Even though nobody likes higher fees, this is one case that I feel the added fee and the overall new fee structure will help everyone who is a seller or is thinking about selling on eBay.

First of all, by changing the listing formats, every single store owner will automatically have higher visibility in searches. As it is now, the store format items typically do not show in a search unless there are very few regular format listings, which almost never happens unless you happen to sell in a very specialized niche. The added visibility alone is worth a ton. Added visibility means more traffic, targeted traffic, those looking specifically for an item that you may have. More traffic ultimately means more sales. All of the stores items will have a much better chance of being sold because now they will be seen by everyone. More sales means more profit and more profit means a better income. I believe that in a very short time, the store owners will see the added traffic and sales that they have been missing.

Another change that I think is nothing short of fantastic is that for the first time, new sellers will actually stand a chance and will be able to sell on eBay without a lot of upfront expense. Let’s face it; we all were Newbies on eBay at some point. By offering 100 free 99 cent auctions per month, Yes that’s right, upfront cost is zero cents and zero dollars, is going to draw new sellers, those who have hesitated because of upfront cost. And you only pay a fee if your item sells. No sale equals no fees. Pretty good option in my opinion. Speaking for myself, I started out selling “stuff”, cleaning out closets, cupboards, the garage, etc. All used items whether it was clothing or a tablecloth. I started selling more or less to test the waters, get rid of some things, and make a few bucks at the same time. Well it turns out, I loved selling on eBay. My niche changed over time, from time to time, but it always has been fun and profitable. It became much more than a hobby. It is now a business that continues to grow. Big, not by any means, but consistent. Anytime, but especially in today’s economy, I believe that everyone is entitled to an equal opportunity. Not everyone can afford the start up fees of opening a store and stocking it with inventory. With the new low cost or no cost options, I believe you will see new sellers and that quite frankly is a wonderful thing. It’s far past time that the small, occasional sellers once again have that opportunity. And I really think we’ll see many more auction listings, which is what eBay has always been about and where the fun of being a buyer or a seller is.

Overall, I think this change is going to bring out the best and help all sellers on eBay move forward in a very positive, profitable direction.

Of course, there are always the people that are going to resist change, and to those I say, it’s your choice, no one is forcing you to sell on eBay, there are lots of other venues to choose from. It’s every individual’s choice any day to stay and work to make their business better, or leave. For me, I’ll be around for a long time. I’ll go with the flow, magnify the positive, and make my business better, and now thanks to eBay be more visible to all of the web’s traffic.

Help Haiti Through eBay

Did you know that people are helping Haiti through eBay? With the help of Mission Fish and eBay, you can help those devastated by the massive earthquake in Haiti. You can list your items and donate a portion of the proceeds to the Charity of Your Choice through Mission Fish. $973,455 donated through 1/23/2010. It's easy and it's rewarding. You can also help with your purchases. There are literally thousands of listings with all or part of the proceeds going to help those in Haiti. There are over 8,000 sellers on eBay participating right now in the project. You can search for charity items in general or search for the Campaign of your choice whether it's the American Red Cross, Clinton Bush Haiti Project, Helping Hands, Unicef or one of the many others. You can check these and more out on eBay's Dedicated Giving Works page, where you can stay up to date on the amount given, the number of listings, etc.

This is one effort that deserves everyone's help and support. Even if it's only $1.00, please do what you can.

A Package of Love

It's hard to believe that it's already January 11, 2010. With all the excitement of the Holidays, it seemed tough to get back into the groove, but looking back on the first 11 days of the new year, I realize I've actually accomplished a lot. The more I get done, the more I want to do. I hope for you that this year is off to an equally productive start and that drive and motivation will help you accomplish your goals. I've put together a "Package of Love" filled with information products for Valentine's Day. These all have resell rights and/or give away rights. You can even take the package apart and sell each product individually, for more profit. I thought this was especially fitting, making the most of a beautiful holiday during these trying economic times. Even if you opt against that expensive dinner at your favorite restaurant, you can make a "special romantic dinner" at home. There's a recipe book full of special recipes. You'll find 101 Romantic Tips & Ideas, coloring pages for the kids that are "print on demand", and even if you are alone this Valentine's Day, we've got you covered with "Surviving Valentine's Day".
